Spring San diego wedding at the lane

Kelsey and Brandon’s downtown San Diego wedding at The Lane was SUCH an incredible way to kick off my 2021 wedding season. I am soooo attached to and obsessed with these images and I can’t quite figure out why, but I love this gallery so much. It was my first wedding that felt ‘normal-ish’ since the c-word shut down the wedding industry, and I felt like I had SO much new stuff I had learned I was ready to use. I just had so much stoked energy and was so excited to be celebrating again. This was not their original plan by any means, but I love how it came together even more perfect than we thought. I LOVED THIS DAY and these are some of my fav images ever - ENJOY!

What did you love about your wedding locations?!
We picked our original venue (Oceanview) because it's gorgeous and right on the water without being on the beach (aka no messy sand), and with our family traveling from Iowa we really wanted it to feel like a vacation/destination wedding for them to get to enjoy while seeing our new city. When events were canceled at Oceanview for the second time, we still wanted an outdoor venue and for it to have that vacation-y feel and the Lane did that for us, with its harbor views and we liked the urban/modern/industrial vibes. Plus, we had a great experience working with the Lane and Moniker group re-planning the wedding in a short amount of time.

Tell me a bit about planning a wedding during a pandemic. How did it affect your plans, how did it change your plans, etc etc etc. What did the journey look like?
It was a roller coaster for sure. We rescheduled from our original date of 8/1/2020 and had intended on keeping the same plans for March, until our venue canceled all events for the month of March one month prior. Additionally, there were no official guidelines out for hosting events during the pandemic in March. We had already been engaged for two years at that point and decided together that we wanted to go forward with our wedding so rather than reschedule again. We pretty much re-planned the entire thing in one week with the help of Kayla from Southern House. We made the tough decision to cut our guest list to <50 people because of the pandemic, limiting it to mostly immediate family, bridal party, and local friends who were vaccinated. There were periods of guilt and sadness that we couldn't have all of our loved ones there, especially since it's been over a year since we've seen most of our extended families.

What advice would you give to future couples who are getting married? During a pandemic or in general?
You have to do what's best for you as a couple, it's your wedding day and not anyone else's. :) What's important will be different for each couple.

How did you two stay positive / keep what's important in mind through all the planning craziness of 2020?
At times it was hard to fend off the "this isn't fair" attitude, but we've been really fortunate throughout this pandemic and thankful for having each other's support and job security/financial stability and knew we would get married eventually.

How did you still include people who couldn't be there physically?
We set up our Go Pro to stream to a live Facebook video so extended family and friends could watch it if they want.
